Volunteer Language Teacher

Volunteer language teachers will be providing students in the Congo with the opportunity to pursue fluency in English, a valuable skill to have and develop for their future. Volunteers' work will help the students:

  • Be able to communicate with 1.5 billion people around the planet

  • Enhance their future options in the work force

  • Provide them with valuable cultural exposure

  • Give them confidence to explore the world

Simultaneously, volunteers will gain an eye-opening perspective of the lives of students their age on the other side of the globe and leverage their English and French skills they developed at LFC.

Our volunteering program bridges continents by connecting students from the Lycée Français de Chicago and the Congo through virtual meetings. Volunteers can expect the following:

  • Introduce yourself and show interest in your language partner's life

  • Refine your English to meet the level of your language partner

  • Over time, increase the level of English for greater language fluency

  • Enjoy the experience!

We encourage volunteers to have casual conversations about daily life, their interests, and culture, helping the Congolese students improve their language abilities. We expect everyone to respect their language partner and facilitate healthy relationships and cultural exchange.

The Process

Applying

Connecting

Achieving

The first step to this process is applying to our virtual volunteer program through our google form. We will then pair you up with a student with similar interests, age etc..

We will soon after introduce the language partners via email. In that email we will also provide information on using Microsoft Teams Video Conferencing, a common platform used by our volunteers.

Contact your partner via WhatsApp or email to schedule convenient times to meet. Aim to meet at least once a week for 45 minutes - 1 hour and enjoy this special experience.
